About Southbridge

Southbridge Massachusetts or Honest Town as it was originally known is located in Worcester County approximately 60 miles west of Boston. With a population of roughly 17,000 this quintessential New England manufacturing town is most famous for American Optical, one of the first and the largest manufacturers of eyewear and optical instruments in the World as well as a pioneer in the field of  fiber optics. For this the town owes its moniker, “The eye of the commonwealth”. Southbridge is also a town of other firsts.  In 1818 Henry Harrington started the first cutlery manufacturing company in America in Southbridge Massachusetts.
